In our efforts to support local small artisans in our community, we are delighted to announce our candle collaboration with Matt from Wild Susan! Matt is making amazing artisanal soy candles by hand, here in Austin, and we are excited to support him.
What ingredients are used in your candles?
Our candles are made using natural soy wax, natural metal-free cotton wicks, and phthalate-free fragrance oils and dyes. We aim to strike a balance between putting a quality product on your shelf and sourcing our ingredients consciously.
Why do you not use essential oils?
Have you ever noticed that a candle made using essential oils usually doesn't emit any scent after the first burn? That's because most essential oils have a low flash point, meaning the oil combusts at a relatively low temperature. This leads to most of the oil in the candle being combusted with the first burn. We choose to use fragrance oils, which have a stabilizing oil component, combined with essential oil, that raises the flash point to an appropriate level for use in candle making. We also mix the fragrance into the entire batch of wax for pouring, rather than just layering a scented layer on the top of the candle.
Keep your wick trimmed!
Trim the wick to 1/4" prior to lighting the candle each time. Use common sense! Don't burn your candle directly underneath your lamp shade, your curtains, or your children (or anything else flammable or human). Fill the pool! Let a full pool of wax (edge to edge) form on the top of the candle each time it is burned to prevent tunneling. You may notice some "frost" that forms on your candle - this is completely normal and does not affect the performance of the candle.
